If you constantly had thyroid related problems and the symptoms were obvious, but you had to switch to a new doctor to find out you have thyroid cancer, it's time to talk to a lawyer. The doctor that overlooked your symptoms for so long may have cost you your health and more.
You go to a doctor because you feel like you can trust them to have your best interests in mind, and because you want them to find out what's wrong with you. Here are a few things you'll want to take with you to your first doctor's appointment.
Visit Log
Print out a log from how many times you went to see the doctor to complain about your health problems, so you can prove how many times your condition was misdiagnosed. You can get the reports from your doctor's, or your statements from the visits, and these will show what your doctor diagnosed the problem as when you were there. Every appointment nothing was done was a missed opportunity to find out what was wrong.
Blood Work
Did your first doctor send you to get blood taken? If you thought there was something wrong with your thyroid, they should have checked your levels right away. If the problems were problematic and the doctor didn't put you on medication or investigate any further, that was negligent. The blood work may also have showed you had a low white blood cell count or other problems to indicate you weren't 100 percent healthy.
Symptoms
If you could see there were lumps in your throat or neck and you have pictures to show it, get copies of the pictures. If you can prove you were having difficulty swallowing because of the thyroid, and there was a significant change in your voice, these are other symptoms that should be documented. These are symptoms your doctor should have listened to.
A physician can't always get the diagnosis right the first time they see you, but they should be able to get it right after you complain about obvious symptoms of a condition. You'll need to have all the doctors' information that you plan on putting a law suit against, so your lawyer can contact their office or their legal team. If you wasted time and you could have been getting the treatment you needed for your thyroid cancer right away, ask a lawyer what your options are for a settlement. Click here for more info.
